The 9-hectare site is located in Te Puke, within the Western Bay of Plenty District. Although the site’s zoning was rural, due to its location adjacent to other industrial uses it presented a logical progression to the town’s urban boundary. As the site is adjacent to the Ohineangaanga Stream, some kiwifruit orchards and a pocket of residential land use, the surrounding environment was a sensitive context to work within. Through careful consideration of existing landscaping and vegetation, MPAD contributed to enhancing the Ohineangaanga Stream through a proposed vegetation buffer, which was part of the Plan Change. The Plan Change was publicly notified and approved by Council in 2022. MPAD was the lead consultant for the preparation of the Plan Change, engaging necessary technical experts and leading the hearing proceedings, which resulted in a successful outcome for the applicant.
